8 days - 7 legs of cross-country ride off the beaten track, about 1270 Km of which 75% on dirt road, a discovery of Kenyan wilderness, an encounter with local people. Alternating camping, bush tented camps and lodges. From Nairobi volcanic highlands passing by the great Rift Valley, Mau Escarpment, Lake Elementaita, Lake Magadi, Mount Kilimanjaro and Amboseli. Although we do not cross national parks, we do pass through animal territories and encounter with wildlife is assured.


PROGRAMME and ITINIRARY
Day 1: NAIROBI WELCOME

Cottage room at Masai Lodge


Welcome at NAIROBI airport and transfer to Masai Lodge at the boundary of Nairobi National Park, dinner and night.
Day 2 : NAIROBI – LAKE ELEMENTAITA : 190 Km on earth track + 20 Km on tarmac (8 hours including stops)

Breakfast and briefing. Depart towards Ngong hills then immediately down a trail, through the dry western slope of the hills straight into the heart of the Great Rift Valley and Masai Land and already an encounter with wildlife. Then going up Mau Escarpment and down to Lake Naivasha. A rough road along the lake leads to another lake, Lake Elemetaita, habitat of thousands of flamingos. Arrive end of the day at Sleeping Warrior Tented Lodge set in a beautiful landscape of ancient lava within the private Soysambu reserve. Dinner and night at the lodge.
Day 3: LAKE ELEMENTAITA – MOSIRO : 180 Km of stony and earth trails (7 hours)

Leave after breakfast on a dirt trail up to Mau escarpment at an altitude of 3000 metres overlooking the Great Rift Valley then down into valley, picnic lunch en route. Arrive at the remote Masai village of Mosiro. Visit to the local primary school. Arrive in the afternoon to set the camping tents near Ewaso Nyiro river flowing at the foothill of Nguruman escarpment. Dinner and night in company of Masai warriors, demonstration of traditional songs and dances.
Day 4 : MOSIRO – LAKE MAGADI : 200 Km on stony and earth roads + 60 Km on tarmac (8 hours)

Depart after early breakfast for a ride through Kedong valley and a trail used by Masai shepherds, passing the foothill of Suswa volcano. Link the tarmac to Magadi and arrive at Sampu camp within Shompole Wildlife sanctuary between Lake Magadi and Lake Natron. Sampu is an eco camp managed by the local Masai community in a remote area right at the foothill of Nguruman escarpment. Dinner and night at the camp

Day 5 :LAKE MAGADI – NAMANGA : 135 Km of stony and sandy trails + 85 Km on tarmac road (8 hours)

Depart on a trail along Tanzanian border passing the foothill of Shompole volcano then crossing up the rift escarpment towards Kajiado plateau. Picnic lunch and ride on a narrow track across the savannah between acacias and anthills. Arrive late afternoon at Namanga River Lodge near Tanzanian border. Dinner and night at the lodge.


Day 6 : NAMANGA – AMBOSELI : 110 Km on sandy trails (4 hours)

Ride to Amboseli national park in the savannah vegetation, against the view of Mount Kilimanjaro (19950 ft), which in clear weather, appears spread on its base in marvellous splendour, astride the southern horizon. Arrive at the boundary of the Park and a follow a beautiful trail whereby Wildlife can be seen through the stretch of the track; giraffe, ostrich, wildebeest, zebras... Arrive at the campsite to pitch tents under beautiful acacia tortilis, in front of Mount Kilimanjaro. Game drive after lunch in Amboseli by 4WD car, looking for big cats, herds of antelopes, buffalos, elephants... Return at campsite after sunset, dinner around a camp fire and night under tent.
Day 7 : AMBOSELI - SELENKAY CAMP : 130 Km on earth road (5 hours)

On Amboseli back roads

Leave after breakfast through an animal trail, crossing Masai land and Amboseli game reserve. Arrive end of afternoon at Selenkay Camp, managed and owned by Masai local community. Cultural visit of traditional Masai huts. Dinner and night at the Tented Camp.


Day 8 : SELENKAY – NAIROBI : 80 Km on earth road and 80 Km on tarmac (5 hours)

Leave after breakfast to Nairobi. Arrive at hotel to take shower and pack luggage. Lunch at Ranger’s restaurant at Nairobi National Park gate and evening transfer to Nairobi international airport for return flight.

PARTICULARITIES
  • Drivers need not to have a special level of driving skills to participate, the circuit is open for off road learners.
  • The motorbikes are off-road models prepared in our premises (HONDA 250 XR BAJA) and suit to all riders.
  • A crew of four persons including one medical, board a support 4WD car equipped with VHF radio and satellite telephone linked in permanence to the organisation “Flying doctors”.
  • It is possible to participate as accompanying passenger in 4WD car on the same itinerary. The size of groups vary from 2 to 12 persons with none riders accompanying participants boarding extra car.
  • We take our time to guide you and the tour leader is always available to advice you.
  • It is possible to have a customized itinerary e.g. lengthen the legs for the most demanding riders … Note that the average speed of moving is 30 Km/h including breaks.
  • We ensure our itinerary is practically off the beaten track, so the participants experience authentic discoveries.
  • Requirements : national driving licence, visa for Kenya : 50 US $, yellow fever vaccination, prevention against malaria.
