9 days - 7 legs of cross-country ride off the beaten track, about 1200 Km of which 80% on dirt road, a discovery of Tanzanian wilderness, an encounter with local people. Alternating bush lodges and camping. From the great rift valley to the Indian Ocean wild beaches passing by Lake Natron, Lake Manyara... Although we do not cross national parks, we do pass through animal territories and encounter with wildlife is assured. |

PROGRAMME and ITINIRARY

| Day 1 : NAIROBI WELCOME |

Cottage room at Masai Lodge
|
Welcome at NAIROBI airport and transfer to Masai Lodge at the boundary of Nairobi National Park, dinner and night. |

| DAY 2 : NAIROBI – NAMANGA- KITUMBEINE : 190 Km on tarmac + 50 Km on sandy trail (8 hours) |

Kitumbeine campsite
|
Depart after breakfast for 170 Km of tarmac up to Namanga border exactly western side of Mount Kilimanjaro whose summit seems buoyant in the clouds. Visa and customs formalities before mid-day. Continue the journey to Longido and branch left on a trail towards mount Kitumbeine. Picnic lunch en route. Arrive at Kitumbeine overlooking the great rift valley and Ol Donyo Lengai volcano. Set up the camp nearby a Masai village. Dinner and night under camping tent. |

| Day 3 : KITUMBEINE - LAKE NATRON : 80 Km of sandy and stony trails (5 hours) |

Set off after breakfast. A very dusty trail rolls down into a vast valley where gnus, zebras, giraffes and antelopes assemble for pastures and water. Picnic lunch under the precious shade of a thorn tree. The last 50 km in this leg is a sandy and stony track cut in the rift. This leads to the foot of Oldonyo Lengai (2800 m a.s.l), “the mountain of God.” This Sacred Mountain of the Masai is surrounded by deep calderas whose sides are covered with ashy volcanic lava. From there, a sandy road takes you to the lowest point in whole Rift Valley: the shores of Lake Natron, which is also the world's largest soda lake... And then pure scenic splendour that inspires in the mind, the image of a picture from the moon. The lake has a particularly low altitude and hot climate within the entire east African rift valley.
The day ends at Kamakia campsite that is managed by the local Masai community. Visit by foot of the spectacular Engare Sero water fall. Dinner and night at campsite.

| Day 4 : LAKE NATRON – LAKE MANYARA : 120 km of sandy and stony trails (5 hours) |

From Natron to Mto Wa Mbu
|
Passing after breakfast by the lakeshore whereby the flamingos feed. The lake is also the preferred breeding habitat for east African flamingos. Then depart on a stony and dusty trail, along the Rift, passing by Engaruka a Masai village and ending up to Mto Wa Mbu town center, a big local market situated within the greenery of luxuriant tropical vegetation at the shores of another soda lake; Lake Manyara. Check-in at Twiga
Lodge and afternoon game drive by 4x4 in Lake Manyara National Park. Dinner and night at the lodge.

| Day 5: LAKE MANYARA – KONDOA : 30 Km off-road and 170 km on earth road (7 hours) |

On the trail of lake Manyara

Depart after breakfast for 30 Km off-road along lake Natron shore, encountering with gazelles, wildebeest and zebras. Then branching the north-south trans Tanzanian highway through forested areas and beautiful hills up to Kondoa highlands (170 Km dirt road). Dinner and night at Kondoa
Hotel. |

| Day 6: KONDOA - KIJUNGU : 190 km on sandy trail (6 hours) |

Camping with Masai at Kijungu
|
A gentle descent into KITWEI plains on a sandy road, that for 100 Km, runs through acacia forests into a Masai village – Kijungu. Enduro loop through a forest track if timing allows. Camping: you will enjoy Masai style hospitality -BBQ and a great deal of traditional songs and dances. |

| Day 7: KIJUNGU – PANGANI : 230 on earth road (8 hours) |

Banda at Peponi
|
This stage ushers you into the coastal region with a remarkable change in the landscape, climate and even the local peoples - you meet the Swahili community. Trails of red soil navigate you through mango, cashew nut trees and other tropical vegetation. End by a wonderful section of 70 Km which goes through a rain forest to link with Pangani, a coastal town with a small Swahili port. Arrival early afternoon; night under the coconut trees at Peponi Beach Resort in a beach “Banda"; a small hut whose roof is built of palm leaves.

| Day 8: TANGA – DIANI : 100 Km on earth road + 40 Km of tarmac (4 hours) |

Last leg of 140 Km returning to Kenya, passing Tanga town and crossing the border at Lunga Lunga. Enter Diani Beach and proceed to a beautiful white-sand beach for a seafood farewell party with the whole crew. Later, move to your beach
hotel : Papillon Lagoon Reef for dinner and night.

| DAY 9: BEACH and RETURN |

Beach day, lunch at hotel and transfer to Mombasa airport to connect Nairobi for your international return flight. |

PARTICULARITIES :
- Drivers need not to have a special level of driving skills to participate, the circuit is open for off road learners.
- The motorbikes are off-road models prepared in our premises (HONDA 250 XR BAJA) and suit to all riders.
- A crew of four persons including one medical, board a support 4WD car equipped with VHF radio and satellite telephone linked in permanence to the organisation “Flying doctors”.
- It is possible to participate as accompanying passenger in 4WD car on the same itinerary. The size of groups vary from 2 to 12 persons with none riders accompanying participants boarding extra car.
- We take our time to guide you and the tour leader is always available to advice you.
- It is possible to have a customized itinerary e.g. lengthen the legs for the most demanding riders … Note that the average speed of moving is 30 Km/h including breaks.
- We ensure our itinerary is practically off the beaten track, so the participants experience authentic discoveries.
- Requirements : national driving licence, visa for Kenya : 50 US $, yellow fever vaccination, prevention against malaria.
